In
the 1950's to mid 1960's the reigning San Francisco Radio Station was KSFO. Owned
by Golden West Broadcasters which in turn was owned by Gene Autry, it
dominated the market so completely that almost 2/3 of the Bay Area tuned
in to hear morning star Don Sherwood, the Peck's bad boy of radio. Here is
a taste of what was. First of all the "Sound Of The City" jingles.
Perhaps the finest package of it's kind anywhere and adopted by stations
all over the country. Then there is their blooper reel of the "man on the
street" spots. I only wish we had tapes of Sherwood for you to hear. If
anyone knows of any, please let us know. Since those wonderful pioneering
days, KSFO has gone talk and become a repository for right wing jerk offs.
A sad end to a great tradition. |
